Book-led Curriculum - Geography

Our geography curriculum creates learners who are fascinated and curious about the world around them. Together, we develop the minds and learning skills of our young geographers through our key drivers:

  • Nurturing enquiry, progressive development of skills, creativity and lifelong learners
  • Making the world a better place
  • Building and expanding geographical language and knowledge throughout their primary years

Pupils develop a greater understanding of diverse places, people and current issues that affect the ecology of the planet. The geography curriculum provokes and provides answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Pupils develop their spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding in order to become a citizen of the world. Pupils will learn about their own locality, whilst becoming aware of the developing knowledge and understanding of the world beyond their own environment.

Pupils also learn about influential people who have affected local and global geography. These may be conservationists, explorers or scientists. By learning about these people, pupils not only understand where their geographical knowledge originally came from, but are inspired by possible future professions.

The strands in Geography are:

  • Locational knowledge
  • Place knowledge
  • Human and physical geography
  • Geographical skills and fieldwork
  • Influential people
